Images

A Picture is worth a thousand words.
The adage " A picture is worth a thousand words" refers to the idea that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image (Wikipedia 2010, p.1.)

I believe this statement to be entirely true. I studied this concept in year 12 art. A picture can convey emotions, thoughts, ideas and life stories. A single image can be more powerful than written text.

The following image is tremendously upsetting. I chose this picture as an example because after reading this story I was truly disgusted, however after seeking the images to this story I was further appalled. The images had more realisations and heart filled emotion, they made the story real and memorable. Sometimes a text can never quit emphasise the message, but in  this case without text attached this image is worth a thousand words.

Images are an excellent tool to use in teaching methods. Images engage students and can often start discussions. Throughout my prac I used a variety of images to begin a discussion, recall a memory from the students and hook the student’s attention. Even adults use images to learn and understand in their work fields, and everyday life e.g. road signs.
